Food Stamp Recipients Get a 30% Increase - Are Radio Ads Contradictory Essay

Are the subliminal messages on the radio meant to draw us into a world of marketing schemes? Or are these ads teaching or tricking people into scamming our government? My response to these ads.

“If you are a baby boomer or a senior, please listen closely to this important message, politicians in Washington are quietly plotting to decrease you Social Security payments drastically. And they want to do it soon.”

An Article by Steve Blow

Sometime ago, in the Sunday’s Dallas Morning News I read an article by Steve Blow and here is what I would like Steve to know, Early the following morning, I was awakened by the advertisements Steve had written about.

Steve told of the advertising and what was said: “If you are a baby boomer or a senior, please listen closely to this important message, politicians in Washington are quietly plotting to decrease you Social Security payments drastically. And they want to do it soon.”

The ad goes on: “In fact, despite rising prices at the gas pump, grocery store and doctor’s office retirees have received a mere 1.3 percent annual increase to their Social Security checks. Meanwhile, food stamp recipients have seen their payouts increase over 30 percent.”

Are Radio Ads Contradictory?

Leading Advertisers to victory?

And draw you into the marketing ploy?

To use you like their favorite toy?

Wow Steve! Are you inside my head?

I can’t believe your article, that I read.

Now as I am laying here in my bed,

I heard what advertisers on my radio have said

The seemingly authoritative voice

Cut through my dreams without giving me a choice

Food Stamps recipients have seen a 30% increase is what was said

WHAT? I sat upright in the middle of my bed

That is a bold face lie, I’m screaming at my radio

There are Food stamp recipients that I know.

Two of them told me, their Food Stamps were cut

And it would put them in a devastating rut

Do you follow where the advertisement leads?

If you do, for all Food Stamp recipients my heart just bleeds

For tangled threads of greed to ensnare and deceive

And you will be trapped in the web they weaved

What Steve’s article conveys

Is how these advertisers play and scheme

That puts enmity between

The people who receive Food Stamp and those who don’t

On the radio the voice when on

About a weird trick to add a thousand dollars

To your monthly Social Security Check

Giving a website telling where to go

The subliminal message is to incite hatred for food stamp recipients

And then goad seniors to try scamming social security

Usually I would have slept right through

But, I sat there and heard the messages through

Steve had written about their dirty trick

And how these predators are so slick

Selling you a newsletter on trial

To make you think, you’ll be receiving freebies all the while

What you hear on the radio does not make it true

No matter what they said to you

Advertisers find radio is a medium for messing with our head

From where their scheming lies are spread

What is with all the double talk?

Is Steven Blow the only one to squawk?

We must be vigilant as a hawk

And tell these advertisers to take a walk

As he told of advertising lies and twisted truth

Where being honest is uncouth

Promoting dishonest scams as if it’s the right thing to do

Selling the idea that it is smart to trick our government

Advertisers want us to believe our own government we can or should deceive.
