The U.S. Postal Service Works on Good Friday Essay

Post Office Open for Good Friday

The United States Postal Services recognizes Good Friday, but they still operate on that day. Easter which is the Sunday after Good Friday is a nonissue since it always falls on a Sunday when the Postal Service doesn’t operate.

It’s true that not rain, nor hail, nor snow, nor the death and ascension of Jesus Christ will stop those dedicated souls at the post office!

US Post Office Holidays

There are some Federal holidays that the post office shuts down for.

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day (MLK’s Birthday)
  • President’s Day (Washington’s Birthday)
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Rest of the US

Good Friday is not a Federal Holiday although many individual states recognize it (especially in the Bible Belt). Most schools still give Good Friday off creating a three day weekend around Easter. A lot of schools have taken to calling this holiday “Spring Holiday” so they don’t have to directly link it to a religious holiday.
